Facial Fillers (Juvederm, Restylane)

Fillers are materials that are used to restore fullness to the face and the skin. They are particularly useful for decreasing nasolabial folds and marionette lines, filling out lips, providing fullness to the brows, smoothing out depressions under the eyes, and plumping up wrinkles. Several different types of fillers are available. Some of the most common fillers available are Restylane, Perlane, and Juvederm.

Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm, and Belotero are fillers consisting mainly of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring component of skin and connective tissue.  These fillers vary in the size and cross-linking of their molecules, altering their properties and the depth and locations at which they are injected.  Generally these products produce corrections that last 6-12 months, depending on the individual. Because hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in skin and other tissues, it has an excellent safety profile.

Any of these fillers can be used in conjunction with Botox Cosmetic. Botox relaxes the muscles that create dynamic wrinkles, while the fillers reduce the visibility of static wrinkles and folds by filling them.

Other filler uses include:

  • Wrinkle correction
  • Diminishing worry lines, smile lines, crow’s feet, marionette lines at corners of the mouth, and smoker’s lines
  • Lip enhancement
  • Reducing the severity of nasolabial folds
  • Chin augmentation
  • Filling cheek depressions
  • Softening acne scars
  • Filling hollows under the eyes
  • Creating a temporary eyebrow lift
  • Correcting facial depressions caused by fat loss
  • Softening the appearance of jowls
